Team Smart Stop’s Travis McCabe Wins Stage 3 at Redlands

TravisMcCabeMichael Creed talked, the team listened. The following day Team SmartStop executed the game plan to perfection. On the Beaumont Road Stage of the Redlands Bicycle Classic, Team SmartStop rode smart and their hard work paid off when Travis McCabe crossed the line in first place, taking the stage win, the overall general classification and the sprint classification.

The team all played their allocated roles perfectly to stay safe and take Travis to the line in perfect condition for the final bunch sprint.

The stage started with a number of riders trying to make moves and the team did a great job a defending their position and not letting threatening breaks get away from the peloton. Michael Torckler found himself in an eleven-man break, which stay away for the majority of the stage. Michael was sitting in virtual second place during the majority of the stage when they break was away.

Torckler had played his cards right and the break got a gap out to over five minutes. But on the final lap Hincapie Sportswear Development Team and Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies turned on the gas and reeled the break back to the peloton.

From there it was all about Travis and making sure he was ready for the sprint. With help from all the guys and Rob Britton being his final lead out man he was able to light up the final sprint. Michael Creed was extremely pleased with how the team rode the stage. The break Torckler was in was a smart move by the New Zealander and all the riders played key roles in the days victories.

“It is absolutely awesome, you guys were totally in control throughout the whole race and today triumphs any personal achievement I have had in my career.”

This is Travis’ second NRC win and first time he will lead an NRC race in the yellow jersey. Travis was ecstatic about taking the stage; he thanked his teammates and said he was feeling extremely good throughout the 120-mile stage.

At the finish line, local media swarmed Travis, he gave interviews and took pictures, and the huge grin that is always present was even more so then.
